June 5, 2013   ·   0 Comments

The 153rd annual Caledon Fair kicks off this weekend (June 7, 8 and 9), with all the crowd favourites plus some special new acts and entertainment befitting one of Ontario’s oldest agricultural fairs.
Daily magic shows, a petting zoo, pony rides and the Cedar Glen YMCA Kids Games will keep the small-fry happy, while Mom bops to renowned Elvis impersonator and two-time festival champion Glen Aitchesen and Dad hits the driver’s seat for the Lawn Tractor games after perusing antique tractor and equipment displays. Even the family pet has a role at this year’s Fair, with Sunday’s Bring Your Own Pet Show. The crowd engaging K9 Agility Dogs and two days of equestrian competition will provide plenty of action for sport fans and wanna-bees.
Twenty-eight students from Robert F. Hall Catholic Secondary School competed in the annual Caledon Fair poster competition, with 16 year old Alex Sincennes’ artwork selected by the jury. His piece was chosen for its “Big Picture” vision in what has become an annual tradition of the Fair.
With more than 1,000 competitions, including dairy and beef cattle, home baking and crafts, plus midway rides, a Giant Truck and Tractor Pull Friday evening and Lawn Tractor Challenge Saturday afternoon, followed by a country hoe-down barbecue, an all-breeds horse show, the Agricultural Awareness Pavilion and Heavy Horse Pull Sunday, there is something for everyone at the 153rd Caledon Fair.
The Caledon Fair is owned and managed by volunteers of the Caledon Agricultural Society (CAS), a registered charity which includes SnowFest (February Family Day) and Canada Day Strawberry Festival (July 1). All proceeds raised during events are dedicated to the refurbishment and maintenance of the Caledon Fairgrounds on Highway 10 in Caledon village.

The Fair opens tomorrow (Friday) and 4 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday at 9 a.m. Admission Friday night is $10 per person and $8 Saturday and Sunday. Children younger than 12 get in free. Or there’s a maximum $15 admission per car. Members of 4H get in free with membership identification.
