A Scottish Celebration (An ode to Robert Burns), will be held Jan. 26 at Caledon Community Complex in Caledon East.
Caledon Concert Band will host the concert, which will showcase the talents of Robin Macleod, two time winner of the Caledon Idol Contest and a former Mayfield Secondary School vocal arts student who earned a scholarship at Tischos Music Academy in Bolton, as well as the Sandhill Pipe Band, the Claymore Highland Dancers and the Georgetown Celtic Fiddle Club.
Scottish poet Robert Burns wrote many famous songs including Auld Lang Syne which is sung around the world at the stroke of midnight on New Year’s Eve. His birthday is traditionally celebrated at the end of January. The Caledon Concert Band has created this event to be a musical celebration that is appropriate for all ages.
The concert will start at 1 p.m. Ticket prices are $12 for adults and $10 for students and seniors.
The Sandhill Pipe and Drums were formed in 1962 and wear the tartan pattern known as the Ordinary Campbell of Argyll. The Claymore Highland Dancers train at the Academy of Highland Dance in Cheltenham. Director Tara Breeze is a former Mayfield Secondary School regional arts dance major and a graduate of the York University dance program. As a member of the Scottish Dance Company of Canada, she performed with leading Celtic musicians, including Leahy and Natalie MacMaster.
The Georgetown Celtic Fiddle Orchestra is under the direction of James Franczek. They rehearse Thursdays evenings at the Georgetown Academy of Music.
