Canada Day weekend was a deadly one on OPP-patrolled roads

The Canada Day long weekend ended on a tragic note with five people dying in collisions on OPP-patrolled roads.
Two of the fatal collisions involved motorcycles, resulting in the deaths of both motorcycle drivers. Excessive speed was reported as a factor in one of the incidents.
The weekend collisions bring the total number of 2017 deaths on OPP-patrolled roads to 113. Speed remains the lead causal factor, with 31 deaths attributed to this driving behaviour.
OPP officers heightened their focus on speeders and drivers engaged in other forms of aggressive driving during the weekend, laying more than 5,800 speeding charges across the province.
No fatal boating or off-road vehicle incidents were reported.
