Caledon starting its door-to-door safety campaign

August 21, 2014   ·   0 Comments

Caledon Fire and Emergency Services is expanding the Home Safe Home door-to-door program to the entire town.
Residents shouldn’t be alarmed if fire crews pull up to their house and approach the door — there isn’t a fire, but rather, firefighters spreading the word on how to ensure one never develops.
“The Town of Caledon supports the principle of ‘prevention rather than response;’ taking a proactive approach to fire safety and prevention,” commented Fire Chief Dave Forfar. “Education is a key component of fire safety and over the next several months, our firefighters will be delivering the message of being proactive rather than reactive.”
Beginning Aug. 1, and running through to Oct. 31, Caledon firefighters will be visiting neighbourhoods throughout town. Visits will be weekdays from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and weekends from 1 to 3:30 p.m.
Through the Home Safe Home campaign, residents have the opportunity to ask firefighters questions, request fire safety information and will be reminded of fire safety legislation, such as having working smoke alarms on every level.
During the campaign, firefighters will be handing out the 2014 Home Fire Safety Guide; a three part brochure on prevention, detection and escape. The brochure includes a fire prevention checklist, to help residents eliminate fire hazards in their home, as well as information on smoke alarms and how to create a home escape plan.
