Caledon athletes have been enjoying some Fall golf.
In early October, Caledon Special Olympics athletes travelled to New Jersey for a golf tournament.
Held at Seaview Golf Club from October 2 to 5, the 2023 Special Olympics North America Golf Championship was the 22nd in the event’s history.
Caledon Special Olympics athlete Jason Scorcia was competing, and said teammates Justin Crooks and Matthew De Stefano were competing, too. Crooks won a silver medal at the event.
Caledon Woods Golf Club is the home course for Caledon Special Olympics athletes, and they practice there once per week during golf season.
Scorcia is in his sixth year of golf competition, but has been playing recreationally with his brother for much longer — especially in charity tournaments.
Scorcia’s favourite part of golf?
“It’s just nice to be outside,” he said with a smile. “It’s really nice right now with the leaves; when you’re at the golf course you can see all the changing leaves.”
The most challenging part of Seaview Golf Club was the thick rough, said Scorcia.
“A lot of people were having problems getting [the golf ball] out,” he said.
Scorcia said the weather was great for the tournament, sunny and warm. Athletes from Ontario and across the United States competed in the tournament.
