Area residents now have more of an opportunity to shop for local microgreens after a popular Bolton-based business relocated to the downtown core last week.

Caledon Roots, a local provider for microgreens, has now moved to a new store in Bolton, on Allen Drive.

The local business, which has been in operation since 2016, was developed by owners Sarah Leslie and her sister-in-law Natalie, who were selling their microgreens online and delivering to the residents of Caledon. Their business has now evolved. By opening up a storefront in the community, Caledon Roots can now provide a market for all things microgreens, which are smaller versions of vegetables and greens, that hold a ton of nutrition.

Though many local businesses in the area, have struggled with maintaining work during the COVID-19 pandemic, Caledon Roots has actually benefitted.

“The pandemic has actually allowed our business to thrive,” said Sarah Leslie. “Because we offer free delivery to Bolton and Palgrave, it’s been very convenient for our customers to order online and have their items delivered to their doorstep.”

Now, Caledon Roots has taken the next step, finally opening their doors this past Friday (July 17), with a small opening event.

Alongside their microgreens, the new location now serves Kawartha Dairy ice cream. Sarah and Natalie are encouraging the community to join them for some dessert at their small opening.

“We’re very excited to be offering something new and different to our community” said Leslie. “I believe this service is needed as a one-stop shop for people who enjoy consuming local products, instead of having to travel to a variety of different businesses or stores.”

Caledon Roots hopes to evolve their store into an indoor farmers market with their microgreen products, as well as ice cream, local honey, local granola, cheeses, jams and many other products.

The small business is excited to offer a “different kind of service and products” for the community of Caledon, especially with a space that residents can come and shop and learn about Caledon Roots products.

“As silly as this may sound, I’m excited to get back to owning a retail store and offering the community something different and unique. I owned East of Fifty, which closed three years ago, so I have a bit of a passion for sourcing different products for people to enjoy,” explained Leslie. “Our hope is that our customers will discover all of the wonderful items our community and surrounding areas have to offer. We have a lot of local producers that quite a few don’t know exist, so when people shop at Caledon Roots they’re not only supporting us but they’re supporting many other local businesses as well.”

Caledon Roots is now located at 15 Allan Drive, Unit 14 in Bolton. For more information, please visit caledonroots.ca or call (905) 857-8686.
