The Bolton Brewers hosted another double header this past weekend when they welcomed the Orangeville Giants to the diamond at North Hill Park.
The first game didn’t go too well, as the Brewers suffered their first loss of the season when they had to leave the field down 3-2 to the visitors.
It was a game that saw most of the scoring action in the first couple of innings, when Orangeville brought in two runs on a couple of triples.
The Brewers lit up the score board in the sixth inning, when they loaded the bases then brought in a run when a Bolton batter was clipped on the elbow by a pitch to walk in the run.
They narrowed the gap on a single RBI, but that’s all they could do for the game and had to settle for the one run loss.
“It’s kind of the way of the game,” said coach Mike Wallace. “You’ve got to give them (Orangeville) credit. Their pitcher made the big pitches when it counted.”
When the first game was over, the teams took a break to re-group for the second outing, but this time the Brewers responded with a devastating performance.
Wallace said you can’t worry about the first loss — you just get on with what you have to do.
“All our guys are veterans with us,” he said. “It’s just one game, so you put it behind you, and march on to the next one.”
That’s exactly what they did and showed why they are a championship team by taking the second game 16-0.
The Brewers will be back at their home diamond at North Hill Park next Thursday (May 22) to host the Creemore Braves.
The first pitch is scheduled for 8:30 p.m.
