Humberview Secondary School in Bolton is now home to a new spectacular, one-of-a-kind track.

The revamped field and track are a result of a partnership between the Peel District School Board and the Town of Caledon, aimed at bringing these improvements to Humberview.

The project included the installation of an artificial turf field, new walking/running track with a synthetic surface, LED lighting and fencing around the sports field.

This $1.8 million project will be shared between the two, with Caledon pitching in $900,000.

Board trustee Stan Cameron said there are not many fields like this in the region. It boasts eight lanes and can accommodate the long jump, pole vault and steeple chase.

This field will allow Caledon to host many sports events, such as the Peel (ROPSSA) and provincial (OFSAA) championships.

Humberview Secondary School will have priority access to the revitalized track and field during the school day for curricular and extra-curricular activities.

The Town of Caledon will have the opportunity to rent out the field to community groups on evenings and weekends.

“It’s exciting projects like this that make a big impact on the community! Students at Humberview Secondary School and the surrounding area will now have access to a great facility that will encourage health and wellness,” said Mayor Allan Thompson.

“We’re pleased to partner with our municipal counterparts in Caledon to deliver top-notch sports facilities and programming to Peel students and the community,” added Jaspal Gill, associate director of operational support services for the Peel board. “When opportunities like these present themselves, it’s clear that they are a win-win for everyone involved.”

Cameron said he brought the idea forward a few years ago when he went to a night game at Chinguacousy Park, between hometown teams from Humberview and St. Michael. It was odd that two Bolton teams could not play in town. He then lobbied the board and helped foster the will to carry on the with the project.

While development in the Bolton area isn’t progressing quickly, there are strong school enrolment projections through 2025.

Cameron invited adjacent residents out for an evening walk of the new track this evening (Thursday). The neighbours have endured a lot during the construction period and he wanted to showcase the new facility and prove it’s something the entire community can be proud of.

An official opening will be held later this fall.

For facility bookings outside of school hours and use please contact the Town: 905-584-2272 ext. 7327.
