It’s almost time for the year’s spookiest run.

On October 29, Bolton Rotary is hosting its annual Haunted Hill Walk/Run at the Caledon Centre for Recreation and Wellness.

The one-kilometre kids fun run starts at 9 a.m. and the five-kilometre walk/run starts half an hour later. Participants are encouraged to wear Halloween costumes, and there will be prizes for the best ones.

The fun run is free, and the five-kilometre walk/run is $25 for those ages 12 and up. Those interested in registering for the run can visit rotaryhauntedhill.com. All proceeds from the run will go to youth programs in Caledon.

Karen Fast of Bolton Rotary said she loves this time of year and the positive energy it brings to Caledon.

“We love the energy that the costumes bring… the concept of getting outside, fresh air, family getting together, it really sends a nice message to the community,” said Fast.

Recruitment of sponsors and volunteers for the event has been great, said Fast, and she encouraged runners to sign up as soon as they can.

“The kids are absolutely darling running around the track… we’re looking forward to such a great day,” said Fast. Runners will get medals to acknowledge their completion of their run.

There will be chili and hot dogs served after the runs, and there will be coffee, hot chocolate and snacks too. Something new available this year is face painting. Humberview Secondary School drama students will also be helping out with the run.

“Last year, the family that won best costume were all dressed as Ghostbusters,” said Fast. “They won a pizza party and they were thrilled… the parents were just as into it as the kids were.”

Fast said the annual run gets everyone involved and provides great opportunities for photos.

“It’s one more opportunity for the kids to wear their costumes,” said Fast. “It’s a great morning.”
