The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board has announced its top scholars for the 2013-14 school year.
Stella Lau from St. Francis Xavier Secondary School in Mississauga is the board’s top scholar with an average of 99.33 per cent. She has received admission offers from both the University of Waterloo and the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom.
Students must achieve an average of 80 per cent or higher on their top six Grade 12 courses to be an Ontario Scholar. This year, 3,167 Dufferin-Peel students earned this distinction.
“One of the Ontario Catholic School Graduate Expectations is to be a self-directed, responsible, lifelong learner who develops and demonstrates their God-given potential,” said Director of Education John B. Kostoff. “Marks like these represent students who are tapping into that potential demonstrating exceptional study habits and dedication. Such qualities will serve them well as they continue their academic journey at their chosen post-secondary institutions and beyond.”
