Terra Cotta is going to be a busy place Monday for the 12th annual Tour de Terra Cotta.
As usual, it will offer a full day of bike racing, starting at 7:45 a.m. with Ontario Cycling Association (OCA) Youth Cup time trials. The highlight will come at 1:30 p.m. with the start of the 104-kilometre Elite Road Race. That will consist of 12 laps around the track, which starts at the Terra Cotta Inn, and heads east on King Street to Heritage Road and south to Old School Road and west to Winston Churchill Boulevard and back north to King.
There will also be other events for beginners, intermediate racers and masters.
“We’re going to have many events that we have in previous years,” race director Brad Hains.
The event is also a fundraiser for various causes, including Caledon Meals on Wheels and the Terra Cotta Community Centre restoration. There will also be bikes donated to Bog Brothers Big Sisters of Peel and Halton, and scholarships to students at Mayfield Secondary School, Robert F. Hall Catholic Secondary School and Humberview Secondary Schools. As well, there will be $2,500 contributions to Mission Peru, Parkinsons Canada and to the scholarship set up in memorial of Dave Rutherford.
