Sorrento Retirement Residence has raised the bar by providing a non-traditional community inspired by its European roots.
Sorrento isn’t like other retirement residences. Nestled in the heart of downtown Bolton, Sorrento is a community designed to help senior residents enjoy the pleasures of life. Inspired by its namesake, the small Italian town on the Amalfi coast, Sorrento offers a Mediterranean lifestyle and atmosphere.
That includes a strong emphasis on high-quality dining. The restaurant-quality meals come from a rotating menu crafted and delivered by Sorrento’s exceptional in-house chef. Residents and their guests enjoy fresh baked pizza each Thursday night followed by musical entertainment.
Howie’s Bar, located inside Sorrento Retirement Residence, serves a variety of drinks from cocktails to cappuccinos, while Roma bistro is the perfect spot to grab a coffee accompanied by a cornetto.
Sorrento also hosts regular culinary and community events. During the live food demos, cooks teach residents how to prepare delicious desserts or tasty appetizers. They also host lively community dinners for the holidays and regular events like beer tasting and ice cream sampling.
For residents looking to host an event of their own, Sorrento offers a “Mama Mia’s” Kitchen to allow families to indulge in home-cooked meals, accompanied by a private, full-serviced dining room for family and friends.
If you’ve experienced the lobby — with its modern design and curated art collection — you’ll find that each of Sorrento’s suites are similarly impressive. One-bedroom suites like Bel’Mare have options for a terrace, den, and walk-in closet. The suites range in size, with some sporting up to 1,000 Sq. Ft and 10-foot-tall ceilings.
Sorrento also offers experiences to help residents stay fit, intellectually stimulated, and to enjoy active social lives.
Programs like yoga classes, tai chi, and weekly aquafit classes are offered at Sorrento’s pool and exercise room. Stroll around the rooftop gardens or putting green, where Sorrento staff host weekly putting and bocce ball tournaments. The Sorrento theatre regularly offers lectures from guest speakers, academics, and authors. In the evening, there are screenings of popular and classic movies.
On the first floor, there’s always something to do: a pool table, a foosball table, and a selection of board games like Scrabble or Carrom. Residents often spend time sitting in lounge chairs by the fireplace while a volunteer plays the nearby grand piano. For those with more comprehensive medical needs, Sorrento also offers assisted living with dedicated nursing staff and medicine management. These options are completely customizable depending on the desired level of care.
