A group of young local soccer players will be on their way to Texas in the coming week to take part in the Dallas cup International Tournament.
This is going to be the culmination of a successful season for the Caledon Bulldogs U17 squad.
“We had a real good year last year,” Coach Maurizio Marini commented, noting they won their league championship, as well as other honours.
The team is due to fly south tomorrow (Friday) for the tournament, which will run from March 20 to 27. They will be among 24 teams taking part. Marini said their first opponents will be the youth academy affiliate of the FC Dallas professional team.
It’s the toughest competition the team’s ever faced,” he observed. “I think the boys are prepared and I think it’s going to be a great experience for them.”
The team also received a boost from the Scotiabank Team Community Program. They were at the branch at the corner of Mayfield and Bramalea Roads last Thursday night to receive a $5,000 contribution to the effort.
