The varsity girls’ flag football team brought their “all” last week, winning 44-0 against North Park.
The girls wasted no time, returning the opening kickoff with a touchdown in the first minute of the game. The girls battled through the horrible rainy weather and worked together to rack up as many points as possible. Even though their hands were freezing, they still managed to play amazingly.
This puts the squad in a great playoff position and it’s all down to their final game versus Aquinas.
With so many scorers and such a happy atmosphere on the sidelines, choosing just one person to receive player of the game honours wouldn’t be right. The girls demonstrated their unselfishness by handing the ball off to fellow players so they could receive the touchdown. Great team work and attitudes were displayed throughout the game.
Congrats to the whole team for working hard together and for everyone receiving the honours this game.
The scorers were Danielle Beyers, Mariya Horrobets, Logan Kamer, Sarah Power (twice), Sam Sterrit (twice) and Lindsey Smith with two one-point converts. The coaches are very proud and want the girls to come out just as hard in the next game.
Next up was the varsity boys’ volleyball squad, with their away game against rivals Mayfield Mavericks Oct. 20. Unfortunately, the boys had yet another loss this season, losing every single set to the Mavericks. The scores were 25-14, 26-24 and 25-14. The boys were proud of their playing performance and Christian Hauck earned player of the game honours for never giving up throughout the match. We hope the boys break their losing streak in their last game coming up against Castlebrooke.
The junior girls’ volleyball team hosted Ascension S.S. in the gym Oct. 20. Unfortunately, the girls lost 39-6 against their opponents, but Hall played with determination throughout the whole game. “Giselle F. continued to be aggressive in offense, always looking to penetrate the defence,” coaches Burgess and Dales reported. Giselle’s hard work and dedication earned herself player of the game honours. We hope the girls earn themselves a win in the next few games they have left.
Last, but not least, we have the varsity boys’ football team. The Wolfpack hosted a buy-in Oct. 22 for all their fans to come out and watch the game. The boys played the Sandalwood Sabres and did not disappoint. Early in the game, the offence had many chances, including an interception made by Josh Fetterly, but could not get the ball over the goal line. It was a gut-wrenching first half, with the advantage going from one team to the other. The score was 0-0 going into the second.
The Wolfpack sent out Gabriel Siemieniec to score a field goal to put Hall up 3-0, then Josh VanAmelsvoort made an interception which led to a touchdown. Hall let down their guard late into the second, allowing the Sabres to claw their way to a touchdown but, rest assured, Hall held their own and kept the 10-6 lead.
The Pack’s next game will be next Thursday against St. Mikes and it will be their final game of the 2014 season.
