Inspiration is the key says local leadership expert Lance Secretan

A world renowned leadership expert does have all the answers. And some are almost archaically simple.

Caledon’s Dr. Lance Secretan has enjoyed a vertiable boat load of recognition recently. He received the Global Gurus 2019 award for executive coaching. He’s ranked the 5th best executive coach in the world, and the 13th foremore expert on leadership.

Secretan said he’s very honoured to be in that elite group. He’s worked his entire career to reach the pinnacle and he’s constantly uncovering more gems to help rock the corporate world.

He said inspiration is the new motivation in today’s business world. And yes, corporations can make a difference and don’t have to choose between bottom line metrics and doing the right thing. Not only can they coincide and complement one another, they can lead to a very healthy bottom line.

Secretan pointed to one of the biggest success stories of all time – Microsoft. The most valuable company in the world got to that level because its CEO has a perspective to honour diversity and create an inspiring culture.

Named as one of Canada’s Great Places to Work, Microsoft Canada Inc. is dedicated to empowering people through great software. Microsoft Canada is a creative workplace which attracts the best and brightest talent in the IT industry who bring an ever-evolving vision of the future to reality.

Since its inception, Microsoft Canada has had a corporate giving philosophy that goes beyond financial donations to champion inventive forms of philanthropy.

How important is that welcoming corporate culture? It means everything. Secretan pointed out a recent study indicating that 80% of employees would give up their day jobs if given a free choice. That indicates that leadership is “broken,” he said. The capitalist system has let us down in the past, presenting the dollars vs. ethics conundrum.

Businesses today have to figure out this dilemma and Secretan has an unlimited arsenal to help. His most recent book, “The Bellwether Effect, Stop Following. Start Inspiring!” contains a multitude of inspirational tools.

But it all comes down to inspiration. Everything we as human beings do, involves inspiration, from taking time to smell the roses, to being productive at work, to serving customers and building great organizations. If we’re not inspired, we leave.

People are embracing those cultures that foster this atmosphere and many companies today are becoming trendsetters. While it can be a “complicated puzzle” at times, Secretan stresses that business – the most powerful institution on the plant – can change the world.

Secretan himself has helped change the world through his trademark Higher Ground Leadership developed by his Secretan Center, which is ranked #1 in the world as an international Leadership Consulting firm by Leadership Excellence.

Dr. Secretan is the world’s top authority on inspirational leadership, a trailblazing teacher, advisor and expert on corporate culture, whose bestselling books, inspirational talks, and life-changing retreats have touched the hearts and minds of hundreds of thousands of people worldwide. He is the author of 22 books about leadership, inspiration, corporate culture and entrepreneurship.

He is the former CEO of a Fortune 100 company, university professor, award-winning columnist, poet, author.

At 80, Secretan said he feels like 50. There’s a good reason for that. He skiis, bikes and kayaks and delivers 50 to 100 speeches every year.

Secretan is helping others to seize the oppotunity to make a difference. We can all be part of the positive domino effect.
