With trick or treating done for another year, Peel Region advises residents that they can keep pumpkins out of landfill by including them in their organic or yard waste.
Pumpkins can be chopped up and placed in residents’ green “organics” bins; put into a paper yard waste bag, bushel basket or labelled, open rigid, reusable container; or, placed in backyard composters.
Residents should ensure they remove the candle and wax from inside the pumpkin, since it can’t be composted.
If residents choose to set out their pumpkins with their curbside waste, they must do so on their regularly scheduled collection days and their bags or containers must not weigh more than 22 kilograms (44 pounds).
