Audiologist and Regional Manager, Rachel Liu said it takes, on average, seven years before people start looking for help after they realize they have hearing loss.

“The appointment will take approximately 75 minutes,” said Liu. A series of sounds will be played through earphones and you’ll be asked to respond by pressing a button, indicating you have heard the sounds. The results are then plotted on an audiogram, and the audiologist will discuss your results with you. If you have hearing loss, the audiologist will go through the hearing solutions available for you.

Adults with an untreated hearing loss are five times more likely to develop dementia, according to John Hopkins Medicine. Further, they are more likely to report depression, according to the National Council on Aging, and those with untreated mild hearing loss are three times more likely to suffer falls, according to John Hopkins Medicine.

The more recent the technology, the better a hearing aid performs in helping people hear, particularly in noisier environments. New hearing aids also have other helpful features such as streaming sounds directly from a smartphone and being rechargeable.”
