Gerald Proctor remembered

March 2, 2016   ·   0 Comments

Flags were flown at half staff this week in memory of Gerald Samuel Proctor, a life time resident of Caledon East.
Mr. Proctor died Saturday. He was 88.
He and his twin brother Douglas Joseph (died 2008) were born in Toronto General Hospital in 1927, both weighing eight pounds.
Their parents were Annie May Faulkner and William Samuel Proctor, who farmed 66 acres on the west side of Airport Road in Caledon East. In 1950, it was developed into Paisley Green subdivision, where both sons resided with their families all their married lives.
Mr. Proctor served for six years on Caledon East Village council; three as a councillor, three as reeve, and he was a member of County council (now Regional council). He also served on many County committees.
He also served his community as a volunteer with the Caledon East Fire Department and was a member of Peel Land Division Committee and Caledon’s Committee of Adjustment for 18 years, plus five years on the Caledon Secondary Plan Committee.
He had been a member of the Caledon East United Church for more than 80 years and participated on many committees of the church, including serving as secretary-treasurer of the Sunday school, Clerk of Session, Chair of the Board of Stewards and Leader of a Youth Group. He was also a member of the Caledon East and District Historical Society.
Mr. Proctor and his wife Marion delivered Meals on Wheels for 25 years and he also served as president for a two-year term. In his spare time he was an umpire for the softball league and a Boy Scout leader.
He leaves his wife Marion (Patterson) of almost 65 years, their son Paul and his wife June plus grandchildren, Elizabeth and her husband, Giancarlo and Mark and his sister-in-law, Jean and her family.
Mr. Proctor was a kind, caring, considerate gentleman who will be greatly missed by his family, but always remembered for the rich legacy he left his community of Caledon and his wonderful sense of humour and infectious laugh.
