Dufferin-Peel celebrates World Teachers’ Day

October 10, 2014   ·   0 Comments

The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board marked United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization’s (UNESCO) World Teachers’ Day Friday.
The day is celebrated Oct. 5 annually. Since this date was a Sunday this year, Dufferin-Peel Catholic schools maked the occasion two days early.
This year, the day was marked with the message to the system recognizing and thanking its more than 6,000 teachers who carry on the board’s tradition of excellence in Catholic education by supporting students and their families in Dufferin-Peel.
“The success of our students is due to the quality Catholic education provided by our dedicated, valued, supported and motivated teachers,” commented Dufferin-Peel Board Chair Mario Pascucci. “We strongly encourage our students and school communities to celebrate our wonderful educators who inspire, mentor and support our students.”
“I would like to thank our outstanding teachers and those who support the work of teachers,” said Director of Education John Kostoff. “They truly make a difference. They are key to our success as a faith-filled and vibrant school system; a system in which our students continue to excel in so many ways. We invite the entire Dufferin-Peel community to join us in celebrating the amazing work our teachers do every day in making our schools better places through faith and a love of learning.”
During morning announcements on October 3, students at each school were encouraged to thank their teachers and express their appreciation for the important role they play in the lives of students.
