Call for artists issued for annual Tapestry of Art and Music fundraiser

If you’re an artist who wants to lend your talents to supporting a local arts non-profit, an opportunity is available now.

Headwaters Arts has issued an open call to artists for its annual Tapestry of Art and Music fundraiser, which will take place from 2 to 5 p.m. on May 25 at the Alton Mill Arts Centre.

Artists interested in participating in the event can register with Headwaters Arts to receive a free 6 x 6 x 1.5” canvas, on which they’re asked to complete a piece of art that fits this year’s theme: “Wonder and Whimsy”.

Artists are welcome to interpret the theme as they like, or use one of these prompts: Favourite Childhood Memory – A moment of joy, discovery, or wonder from your younger years; Soundtrack of Your Youth – A piece inspired by a song, artist, or musical moment that shaped you; Dream Worlds – Explore your creative imagination; or Colours of Play – Be bold and playful with textures, hues, strokes and ideas.

The art pieces will be donated to Headwaters Arts and then put up for sale on May 25. All proceeds will go towards the non-profit.

Headwaters Arts hopes to involve 100 artists in the project — all submitted canvases will be displayed together on May 25, forming one large tapestry, hence the event’s name.

Artists are encouraged to register as soon as possible, though the final deadline is May 11.

In addition to viewing and purchasing art from the tapestry, the May 25 event will offer visitors a chance to see a performance from the Oakville Choir for Children and Youth, be entered in a draw to win a Paul Morin artwork, and view the award presentation for young new artist of the year.
