An afternoon of groovy jazz at Alton Mill

March 2, 2016   ·   0 Comments

The Alton Mill’s Culture Café series returns with an exciting performance by the extremely talented Brent Rowan, Dave O’Neill and Tyler Wagler.
Taking place this Sunday (March 6) at 2 p.m. in the Millrace Room at the Alton Mill, this show promises to stir the soul and get feet tapping.
Rowan is a Guelph-based performer, director, composer and educator of music. A magnificent saxophonist who also plays a variety of other woodwind instruments, he performs in a wide range of musical collaborations. Rowan has played in the 2009/2015 Juno-nominated Eccodek, other combos, bands and creative ensembles. He has an extensive performance record that spans Canada, UK and Germany.
Drummer O’Neill’s musical style is an eclectic collection of genres ranging from jazz, rock and salsa, to polka, African dance drumming and everything in between. Having met with a workplace accident in his teen years O’Neill lost his fingers and half of his palm on his right hand. This did not stop the passionate musician. After receiving prosthesis that could hold a stick he practised and perfected his craft and is endorsed by Headhunters Drum Sticks — “Stick with the Groove,” has obtained a degree in Jazz Performance from the University of Toronto, and is a graduate of Ontario teachers college. O’Neill works for the Waterloo Board of Education and conducts inspiring Motivational Clinics.
For more than a decade, Wagler has been a coveted sideman in Canadian folk, roots, reggae and rock music. He has been busy playing guitar, bass and mandolin with artists such as Friendlyness and The Human Rights, David Sereda, and many more. Since relocating to Guelph, Wagler has been stepping out on his own with a self-titled solo EP. His musical style is a unique collection of gorgeous melodies, percolating rhythms and insightful lyrics. Wagler’s years playing festivals and clubs all over Ontario has allowed him to assemble a fantastic band of accomplished musicians to make his musical visions a reality.
