The real world

Toronto Mayor John Tory says “there’s no free ride.”
Really Mr. Tory? We all read about how the City’s unionized workers get paid 100 per cent up to 130 days per year as sick days. If we work five days a week times 52 weeks a year, that is a total of 260 days, so Toronto’s unionized employees can take 130 days, or half the year, off with 100 per cent pay.
So Mr. Tory, you are giving a lot of people a free ride and then you expect those of us who come and go into the city to pay for Toronto’s shortfalls?
Remember the two principles to a balanced budget — increase revenues and (or) reduce expenses. And until the latter happens, there will never be enough money coming in.
And by the way, in the real world that the rest of us live and work in, we are allowed three sick days a year with pay – Three!
Brian Perras,
Caledon
