PAMA has something for everyone this winter break

December 2, 2015   ·   0 Comments

The Peel Art Gallery, Museum and Archives (PAMA) is the family destination for a memorable outing this December.
Explore new and permanent exhibitions, give back to the community, create artwork and enjoy hands-on fun.
There are ways to give back this holiday season.
They include $5 homeless care packages. Purchase a child or adult care package as part of Through Our Eyes: Homeless in Peel, an exhibition exploring the lived experiences of homeless individuals and families. Donations of high-demand necessities, including new socks, underwear and travel-sized toiletries, are also welcomed. All donations benefit homeless community members.
There’s also Knit@PAMA. Drop in to a free knitting session Thursday evenings from 6 to 8 p.m. and produce warm items for those in need. PAMA supplies the yarn. All levels are welcome.
Exhibitions
Explore changing exhibitions in the Art Gallery, including Stephanie Rayner: Boat of Eternal Return, Point of Inspiration and Works on Paper from York Wilson as well as Stitched Together: The Art and Warmth of Quilts in the Museum Community Connections gallery. Uncover facts and stories about the community in the permanent exhibitions like the Story of the Peel County Jail, Innovation in Peel and Face of the Farmer to name a few.
Hands-on fun
Discover Manning Square, designed for kids to play. Learn about What Kids Wore in the 19th century, play dress-up, take a “selfie” with PAMA friends from the past, have fun with buckles, laces and buttons plus books, colouring and more. Explore all the museum spaces with lots of hands-on opportunities for little hands. Also, don’t forget to complete the Winter Scavenger hunt and win a PAMA prize.
Get creative
Create a colourful winter break portfolio at the fun family weekend activities (from 1 to 4 p.m.) and drop-in during the special instructor-led winter break activities and learn some great techniques in sculpture, watercolours and painting with acrylics (times vary, so see pama.peelregion.ca for full details).
Last but not least during December, create a snowflake to help decorate the holiday window.
PAMA will close early Christmas Eve at 2 p.m. and will be closed Christmas and Boxing Days. It will close at 4 p.m. New Year’s Eve and will remain closed New year’s Day.
PAMA is a place to explore and learn about Peel Region’s culture and heritage, as well as use conversation, questions and stories to help make new and fascinating connections to the surrounding community. Operated by the Region of Peel, PAMA is at 9 Wellington St. E. in Brampton. Visit pama.peelregion.ca to learn more.
