Crewson welcomes Paul Martin to riding

Dufferin-Caledon Liberal candidate Ed Crewson welcomed a special visitor to the riding Sunday.
Former prime minister Paul Martin was at Mercato’s Fine Foods in Bolton to discuss the issues facing the area.
“There has been severe underinvestment from the federal government in our local infrastructure,” Crewson observed. “From rural high-speed internet to senior housing, our community faces pressing needs that have been ignored by our federal government for too-long.”
The Liberal party is proposing to spend $125 billion on infrastructure over the next 10 years, the largest infrastructure investment in Canadian history.
“We know that investing in public infrastructure not only grows the economy and creates jobs, but makes our communities stronger,” Crewson observed. “Investment in infrastructure is crucial to the long-term development of Dufferin-Caledon and all communities across the country.”
Martin expressed confidence in the Liberal plan.
“The truth is, if we don’t invest now, the economy is not going to turn around,”he said.
The two discussed the impact of federal spending on the municipal level, with Crewson noting his success in attracting industry to Shelburne was in part because of the availability of federal infrastructure grants.
“Over the past 10 years, I have watched the federal government retreat from its role as a partner with municipalities,” Crewson commented. “We need to invest in our future.”
