Hold the bassoon- there’s a new music school in town! With a quarter century experience as a private instructor, and as a former teacher for York Region before that, Rachel DeGazon and the DeGazon Music Studios has come to Caledon!

Along with her husband Anthony, who left behind the world of high-finance in 2005 to help his wife, the DeGazons have opened their third music school at 102 King St. W in Bolton, across from the post office and at the four corners.

Currently offering piano, voice, guitar, drums, ukulele, violin, and band instrument lessons with forty available instructors, DeGazon sums up her services with, “basically, you name it, we teach it!”

For ages 4 to 84, the DeGazon school’s “big picture” methodology is, “repertoire based. We do think it’s our job as educators to teach other styles of music, as well as improvisation and ear training. Get them out of their comfort zone. We do have students with needs, and we are ready to meet those needs. We make sure our teachers are not only great musicians, but that they are great teachers as well.”

Although DeGazon Music Studios caters to students wishing to learn for fun, because of a certain music style, or wanting to pick up a particular instrument, DeGazon says the majority of calls she receives relate to students wishing to prepare for entrance examinations to art program schools, such as RAP high schools and conservatories. DeGazon teaches all styles of music from classical to Broadway and musical theatre, and teaches piano up to the ARCT level.

DeGazon summarizes her school’s mission with, “at the end of the day, we want students to love music, and love it for life. We want to find what works for each student, and we do teach to each student and their learning style.”
