Bolton Historical Walk Saturday

September 21, 2017   ·   0 Comments

Join Bill Wilson on a hike in inner Bolton Sept. 23
It will start at 7:30 p.m. at the Tim Hortons in downtown Bolton.
It will take between two-and-a-half and three hours, covering roughly four-and-a-half kilometres.
It will be a “walk and talk” that will explore little-known features and recent improvements to the trail along the Humber River as it flows through historical downtown Bolton. This riverside journey will go west along the Humber Valley Heritage Trail (south side of the river) and return in an easterly direction through Dick’s Dam Park and Bolton Mill Park (north riverbank).
Along the way, Wilson will share stories and insights about the Humber River’s past, present and future in Bolton. Examples of natural features that will be investigated are the perpetual springs originating from the slope of North Hill, and the fishway at McFall Dam. Historical features such as the former Bolton Mill and still existing McFall House will be pointed out. As well, the location of the first Royal visit to Bolton will be noted along the way.
Walking will be easy, since the walk will be mostly on the flat Humber floodplain. Kids are welcome, but dogs are not advised because of traffic in places.
Wilson is a long-time resident of Bolton, founding member of Humber Valley Heritage Trail Association (HVHTA), and Past-President of Hike Ontario.
