Sunday hockey starts 2017 round robin

The post-season action has opened with some close games and one upset in the Sunday Night Hockey League.
The Sports Marketing All Stars, who finished the regular season tied for last place in the eight-team standings, stung the Ken’s Lawn Mower Repairs Ltd. Blades, who were tied for top spot. The other first-place team was the only one to post a win that evening as the Inside Out Family Chiropractic Predators beat the Glen Eagle Golf Club Griffins 5-3. The other two matches ended in ties.
The teams have completed the first evening in their round-robin post-season. One point is awarded for winning a period, two points for winning the game and if a period is tied, each team gets half a point.
The standings after one night has the Predators on top with four points, fallowed by the All Stars with 3.5. The St. Louis Bar and Grill Wings, Mr. Handyman Moose, Pommies Cider Co. Wild and Ainsley Fire Protection Fire are all bunched in the middle of the pack with 2.5, followed by the Blades with 1.5 and the Griffins.
Feb. 12
Predators 5, Griffins 3
In the first match of the round,robin play, the Griffins fell prey to the Predators and gave up four of the five points in the system used for playoffs.
Goal getters for the Predators were Shaun Heron from Mike Andreoli, Andreoli (unassisted), Andreoli from Austin Brown, Colin Fyffe from Andreoli, and Greg Keenan from Brett Appio. Griffin go getters were David Ilijasic from Tim Vokey, Vokey from Joe Doan, and Doan from Cory Schittenhelm.
Wild 3, Fire 3
This nail biter saw the Wild hop out to a 2-0 lead in the first, only to have the Fire answer back in the second with a pair of their own.
And then both teams swap goals in the third, so neither team took an advantage in the points and each ended with 2.5.
Fire firers were Fab Iafano from Mark Andreoli, Ryan Wood from Sandro Mignosa, and Mignosa (unassisted). Wild whippers were Marc de Abaitua from Kevin Bowen, Matt Moss from Bowen, and Bowen (unassisted).
All Stars 2, Blades 1
The Blades jumped out to the early lead in the first frame when Cam Coulter got a lucky bounce and the puck ended up in the back of the twine tent.
After that, the All Stars got down to business and potted a pair in the second, with Ron Toffan from Matt Dowdle, and Kevin Norris from Kevin Christie being the heroes. The third saw end to action with no one being able to bury the biscuit, giving the Stars 3.5 and the Blades 1.5 points.
Moose 2, Wings 2
The last game of the night saw two evenly matched teams be stingy with the goals and not be able to best the other.
The Wings flew high, potting a pair in the second with Daniel Hamlett and Bob McHardy doing the damage with no help. The Moose main man was Jay Beech who got one back in the second from Steve Hutchins and one in the third to give both teams 2.5 points.
Jan. 29
The final evening of regular-season action was Jan 29, and there were no shortage of goals in the various matches.
Blades 4, Wild 2
In a tight match, the Blades were able to get past the Wild and take second place in the standings, putting the Wild in fourth.
Blade bin bashers were Daryll Simpson with two, Shawn Simpson and Sean Mazurkiewicz, with help from Mark Bauldry, Mazurkiewicz, Dave Gardilcic, and Simpsons. Wild whippers were Marc de Abaitua and Darren Jones helped out by Jones and de Abaitua.
Fire 7, Moose 6
The Fire kept the flames stoked and were able to best the Moose and earn sixth spot, relegating the Moose to third.
Fire firers were Giancarlo Tarsitano, Iafano with a pair, Shane Ainsley, Alex Schittenhelm and Wood with two, with assists from Tarsitano, Iafano, Schittenhelm, Mike Weeda, Eamon Harper, Mignosa and Mark Andreoli. Moose men were Craig Shaw, Beech with three, Hutchins and Brandon Scott with help by Shaw, Beech, Richard Archer, James Sheridan, Chuck Hughes and Hutchins.
All Stars 6, Griffins 4
The All Stars were on point this night, as they handed the Griffins the loss and finalized their positions as seventh and eighth respectively.
All Stars were Toffan with a goal and an assist, Brad Wigner with two assists, Steve Smith (a goal and an assist), Dowdle (two goals), Norris (a goal and two assists), Steve Conforti (an assist) and Steve Whitten (a goal and an assist). Griffins’ go getters were Doan (two goals), Dan Maggio (two assists), Brent Spagnol (an assist) and Vokey (two goals and an assist).
Predators 4, Wings 1
The Predators feasted on the Wings and earned first place in the league, having the Wings settle for fifth.
Predator power came from Howard Cantelon from Appio, Steve Brown from Appio, Cantelon from Appio and John Hutchinson, and Hutchinson from Heron and Cantelon. The Wings’ lone flyer was Hamlett (unassisted).
Jan. 22
The action was noticeably tighter the previous Sunday, and offered a couple of upsets.
Wild 2, Predators 1
In a close match, the Predators weren’t able to tame the Wild.
Wild lamp lighters were Justin de Abaitua from Randy Isenberg, and Bowen from Marc de Abaitua. The Predators’ puck puncher was Heron from Mike Andreoli and Steve Nicoloff.
Fire 4, Griffins 3
The Fire were able to burn the Griffins and get the win in this tight game.
Fire flamers were Mark Andreoli (unassisted), Tarsitano from Harper, Andreoli from Weeda, and Iafano from Tarsitano. Griffin goal getters were Vokey from Brent Spagnol, Vokey from Cory Schittenhelm, and Jody Spagnol from Vokey and Schittenhelm.
Blades 6, Wings 2
The Wings got clipped by the Blades and could fly past them.
Blades’ bin bulgers were Dano Shaw from Mazurkiewicz and Clark Chung, Shawn Simpson (unassisted), Coulter from Daryll Simpson, Coulter from Shaw, Mike Blackwood from David Payne, and Bogdan Rapan from Mazurkiewicz. Wings whippers were Eric Webster from Derek Cleary and Hamlett, and Mike De Francesco from Webster.
All Stars 2, Moose 1
In a real nail biter, the All Stars took full advantage of the short-benched Moose and got the win.
Net nabbing for the Stars was Dowdle with the brace, helped out by Silvio Muraca, Norris and Michael Horsley. Mr. Handyman’s lone marker was by Hutchins from Gary Morris.
Jan. 15
It was a good night for some of the trailing teams, as they were able to push their way up a bit in the standings.
All Stars 7, Wings 3
The All Stars were flying high, clipping the wings of the Wings.
Leading the charge for the Stars were Toffan and Norris with two each, Brad Wigner, Whitten and Steve Smith, with helpers from the sticks of Dowdle, Ed Lewis, Muraca, Norris, Conforti and Wigner. Wings’ weapons were McHardy from Victor Ranieri, Brandon Jones from Ranieri and Webster, and McHardy from Webster.
Blades 4, Moose 2
In a close battle, the Moose couldn’t quite dull the Blades.
Blade bin bulgers were Rapan from Dan Shaw, Chung from Coulter, Daryll Simpson from Gardilcic, and Shawn Simpson from Gardilcic. The Moose mesh masher was Beech with the pair, with help from Hughes and Craig Shaw.
Predators 5, Griffins 4
In a tight match, the Griffins couldn’t stave off the Predators.
Predator power came from Mike Andreoli and Appio with two each, and Hutchinson. Assists were by Appio, Nicoloff, Travis Rumney and Ryan Smith. Griffin goal getters were Jody Spagnol from Maggio, Vokey (unassisted), Vokey from Brent Spagnol and Mike Swan and Ilijasic.
Wild 7, Fire 1
The Fire got doused this night by the Wild.
Wild lamp lighters were Dale Deleonardis, Marc de Abaitua, Graham Bryson and Darren Jones, with helpers coming from Jones, Jesse Thompson, Justin de Abaitua, Jason Clark and M. de Abaitua. The Fire’s lone marksman was Iafano from Alex Schittenhelm.
Jan. 8
Predators 3, Moose 1
In a low scoring affair, the Predators showed less rust after the break than the Moose did, and were able to hold on for the win.
Net nabbing for the Predators were Heron from Steve Brown and Mike Andreoli, Andreoli from Brown, and Fyffe (unassisted). Mr. Handyman’s hammer was dropped by Craig Shaw from Beech and Hughes.
Griffins 5, Blades 2
The Griffins came off the break firing on all cylinders and took it to the Blades.
Lamp lighting for the Griffins were Vokey and Doan with two each and Swan with the single. Assists were from Maggio, Andrew Kirk, Vokey and Brent Spagnol. Blade bin bulgers were Dan Shaw and Coulter, with help from Mazurkiewicz, Shaw and Coulter.
Wild 4, All Stars 3
In a tight fought battle, the Wild were able to hold off the third-period charge by the All Stars and get the win.
Leading the charge for the Wild were Darren Jones from Bowen, Bowen from Thompson, Jones from Isenberg, and Marc de Abaitua from Jones. Stars’ stars were Norris from Whitten and Dowdle, Dowdle from Whitten, and Dowdle from Norris.
Fire 6, Wings 3
In a bit of a shooting gallery, the Wings got singed by the Fire.
Fire finishers were Mark Andreoli with two, Wood, Iafano with a pair and Alex Schittenhelm, with assists from Iafano, Andreoli, Mignosa and Wood. Wings’ warriors were Cleary with a pair and Webster, with help from Darren Levy and De Francesco.
