Talk of the Town by Mayor Allan Thompson — Lots will be happening in Caledon in June

June 14, 2016   ·   0 Comments

Caledon is known for its expansive landscapes, winding roads, rolling hills, villages, small urban areas and a thriving agricultural community.
We are all of that and much more. There are tremendous opportunities and possibilities in Caledon. Council, as elected officials, and you, as residents, have the important task of planning for the future of our Town, one that is both sustainable and affordable.
With 80 per cent of Caledon protected by legislation — Greenbelt, Oak Ridges Moraine, Places to Grow and the Niagara Escarpment — the remaining 20 per cent is where much of the opportunities for sustainability lay. We are involved in a Whitebelt visioning exercise and the Region of Peel is currently receiving comments on the Bolton Residential Expansion Study review. This is a chance for you to have a say in shaping the future of your hometown.
I encourage you to visit our website at www.caledon.ca to find out more.
During the election, I made a commitment to enter a new era of public engagement and communication. I can tell you that we’re making tremendous progress with this initiative. So far this term of council, we have held a series of Coffee with Council Town Hall sessions throughout Caledon, hosted three sold out business events, and June 29th is our second annual Mayor’s Seniors Forum. We also have a strong and growing online presence.
Next week the newest member to our Senior Management Team will begin his tenure. Derrick Thomson will lead our Community Services Department as General Manager. Welcome Derrick!
June is a busy month in Caledon. Here are just a few of the community events taking place: Caledon Day June 18; Bolton annual Truck and Tractor Pull June 24 and the Mayor’s annual Seniors Forum June 29.
