Following a slow start to the Ontario Junior C Lacrosse League season, the Caledon Bandits seem to have found answers on both ends of the floor.
The Bandits won their second game in a row last Tuesday at Mayfield Arena, a 7-2 victory over the Shelburne Vets, thanks to some spectacular goaltending.
Caledon controlled the play from the opening draw, taking a 1-0 lead into first intermission. They scored five unanswered goals in the second, with Jordan Roswell maintaining a shutout between the Caledon pipes until the four minute mark of the third period.
Shelburne added one more with 14 seconds left in the game.
Colin Sinclair and Jarrett Petrie led the charge for the Bandits, notching three points each. Petrie has been spectacular offensively for the Bandits this season, now with 11 goals and eight assists through the first six games.
They closed the week in Brantford Friday to face the Warriors, the second meeting of the year between the teams. An improved Bandits squad took the Warriors to overtime, where Brantford scored the winning goal eight minutes in.
Sam McCanna had four points for the Bandits in the 9-8 losing effort.
After starting out the 2016 season on a three-game slide, the Bandits have improved to 2-4 to sit seventh in the nine-team West Division of the OJCLL. Tuesday evening (after press time) opened a five-game home stand for the Bandits, who next face the Wilmot Wild Friday night at 8p.m.
It should be noted that there is a change of venue, with the game being played at the Caledon Community Complex instead of the usual Mayfield arena.
