Ticket sales have already started for a lottery that will see a 2016 Lincoln MKC SUV as the grand prize.
The Caring for Our Community Lottery, being run in support of the Bethell Hospice Foundation, was launched last Thursday at Fines Ford Lincoln in Bolton.
Danila Maric, a member of the Foundation Board, was also representing Scotiabank, which is involved in the fundraising effort, along with Cavalier Transportation Services.
She observed that Bethell depends on community support to raise 40 per cent of its annual operating costs to continue being a presence in the community. Maric added the funds raised from the lottery will go directly to Bethell’s residence, programs and services.
“With each ticket purchase, you will make a real difference,” she declared.
She also thanked Bob Fines of Fines Ford Lincoln and his staff for all their support.
“You have been such a great friend to Bethell Hospice Foundation,” she said. “We owe you so much for being such an enthusiastic partner in this lottery initiative.”
“We brought you out tonight because we want to celebrate,” Fines declared, as he praised the work done by Bethell in the community.
There will be 12,000 lottery tickets available. They are selling for $20 each, or three for $50. The draw for the car will be at Bolton Fall Fair in September. And there will be two early-bird draws, for cash prizes of $1,000 and $2,500, at the Caledon Strawberry Festival July 1.
“The odds are pretty good,” Fines observed.
Toronto Maple Leaf centre, and Caledon native Peter Holland was on hand to take part in the official first ticket sale to Brampton resident Carol Walker, a volunteer at Bethell Hospice whose husband was a resident there in 2012. Holland also sold a book of tickets to his mother June, who was at the event.
“I like the odds, and you know what? It’s for a great cause,” she said.
“We won’t talk about why Peter was available to help us tonight,” Fines joked.
Fines urged everyone to help spread the word and sell tickets in the community.
He also spoke of another fundraising effort that will be taking place June 11 at Fines.
They will be hosting a Lincoln Test Drive event. It will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fines said people can stop in for a free test drive of a Lincoln, and for every test drive, Lincoln Canada will donate $50 to the Bethell Hospice Foundation.
“Come and have a quick test drive, and we’ll all be successful,” he said.
Bethell operates the only residential hospice serving Caledon, Brampton, Dufferin County and west Woodbridge. It also provides community programs throughout Caledon and Brampton.
