Rain was unable to dampen Caledon Fair

The weather could have been a lot better, but there was still lots of fun over the weekend for the 155th edition of Caledon Fair. Things looked a little ominous early Saturday, but they improved to provide a bright, sunny day. Dr. Rex Crawford of Orangeville was judging the Cattle Show Sunday, and watched Peewee Showmanship competitor Jessie McClellan, 9, of Alton. The member of Erin 4-H was showing Aster, a charolais limousin.

The Cellar Door, consisting of Danny Machen, Ian McCreath, Gord McDonald and Bruce Foulger, were providing entertainment in the Beer Garden Friday night.

Friday night’s rain couldn’t stop the Truck and Tractor Pull. Russell Simpson of Grand Valley was the only entry in the 5,500 Farm Tractor Class, turning in a pull of 212 feet, 7.3 inches. He declined to accept the trophy, opting that it be presented to a deserving member of the audience. Chase White, 6, of Brisbane, was the lucky recipient.

Blake Lloyd of Sandhill was driving The Other Hooker in the class for 6,500-pound 4x4s in Friday’s Truck and Tractor Pull. He pulled the sled 291 feet, 3.24 inches, good for third place in the class.

There were many classes in Saturday’s Gaited Horse Show. Nate Meakins, 10, of Stirling, Ontario, won the Paso Pleasure Novice class aboard Traner, a paso fino.

The Midway at the Fair included fish pond, and Jen Forbes of Cataract watched as Errol, 4, and Grier, 6, fished.

Sadee Dolson, 2, and her sister Kylee, 4, of Orangeville were having fun with some of the toys while learning about farming in the Agricultural Awareness Tent.

Tucker Hardy, 13, was acclaimed as the Caledon Agricultural Society’s Junior Ambassador at the Fair. He is a Grade 8 student at Caledon Central Public School, and is interested in promoting the Fair.

The likes of Jim Pattison, Al Cook, Steve Hayward and Kevin Griffiths were preparing food and drink all weekend at the Beer Garden run by the Fairboard.
