Well-known author brings hockey, art and music to the Alton Mill

There is nothing more Canadian than a well-known musician and author turning his love for hockey in a new book Keon and Me: My Search for the Lost Soul of the Leafs.
Dave Bidini, co-founder of the rock band Rheostatics, National Post columnist and author of three books about baseball and hockey, confronts the painful truth of the once-great Toronto Maple Leafs. It's been four decades since the Leafs last won the Stanley Cup.
Bidini will be at the Alton Mill Arts Centre this Sunday (Dec. 8) from 2 to 4 p.m. for an afternoon of talk and reading. The Rubber Brothers will be on hand to perform as well as artist Mark Grice creating a painting of Dave Keon in action at the same time. Refreshments will be provided.
Hockey is often the lens through which Canadians see their lives, and Bidini uses the legendary hockey master Dave Keon as his lens. Keon provided leadership in four Stanley Cups and won two Lady Byng trophies as the NHL's most gentlemanly player. Throughout his 22-year career, Keon was only in one fight.
According to sports personality Ron MacLean, Bidini is “one of the great voices of hockey and music, in our country.”
Tickets ($10) are available at BookLore at 121 First St., Orangeville and Shaw's Creek Café at the Alton Mill. Proceeds will be donated to the Alton Millpond Restoration Project.
