‘We will all miss Jim Flaherty’Political parties sometimes portray those opposing them as “the enemy,” but in reality we are friends and neighbours who happen to have diverse points of view. From Confederation on, Liberals and Conservatives have steered this improbable country in often different directions, but we have arrived together at this time to be the most privileged citizens, unarguably and undeniably, of the most desirable and fortunate place on earth. It is therefore with sincerity and unambiguity that we mourn the loss of former finance minister Jim Flaherty. He served this country with integrity, dedication and with honour during, at times, difficult periods. While we often disagreed on policy, we recognize he was a decent man, a gentleman and a great Canadian. He perhaps sacrificed his health to the stress of his service and we had hoped for his return to full vigour going forward to private life. But that was not to be. On behalf of the Dufferin-Caledon Federal Liberal Association, we express our heartfelt sympathies to his wife Christine and their sons John, Galen and Quinn. We know his early passing will leave an unfillable void in their lives. We will all miss Jim Flaherty. George denHaan Director Communications Dufferin-Caledon Federal Liberal Association |
