Viva Earth Refillery opens up shop in BoltonSustainable household and personal care items take centre stage at new store By Zachary Roman Two young, local entrepreneurs are aiming to make a difference with their new business. Clancy Bailey and Giovanni Dametto — who are both 26 — are the proud owners of Viva Earth Refillery, an environmentally-conscious business that just opened in Bolton. On May 6, a grand opening ceremony was held at Viva Earth where family, friends, Caledon Council, and the Caledon Chamber of Commerce were in attendance. Bailey said she was feeling really excited after the grand opening, and said she's very honoured to be a part of the Caledon community. She said she felt very welcomed by the turnout at her business opening. It was a fun process to open up Viva Earth Refillery, said Bailey, and lots of work too. She said seeing the store built and designed from the ground up was a beautiful process. Over the years, Dametto and Bailey watched environmental documentaries together and did lots of research about plastic waste in Canada. “We were truly inspired to make a difference in the environment,” said Dametto. “It was either buy a house, or try to save the environment. We chose save the environment and we're running hard at it. We're not letting anything slow us down.” Bailey and Dametto are thinking towards the future with their business. “Our world is in shambles with regards to the climate and how we treat it,” said Bailey. “We wanted to be that change… to help better our world that we live in because we want to enjoy it, we want our children to enjoy it, we want future generations to enjoy it.” Bailey said Viva Earth Refillery is a one-stop shop for all household and personal care needs. Refillery businesses eliminate single-use plastics by refilling items used daily, like hand soap and shampoo, in the same containers. Viva Earth Refillery also sells a wide variety of zero-waste and sustainable items. “You are saving the world every time you come into our store,” said Bailey. Dametto said all the products in Viva Earth Refillery are Canadian, and it's something he and Bailey are proud of. “You keep a lot of savings by not having to cross the border with products, and we feel great about supporting our country,” said Dametto. Caledon Mayor Annette Groves was at the grand opening of Viva Earth Refillery and said in her remarks how important the environment is to her. “Thank you Giovanni and Clancy for doing this wonderful initiative,” said Groves. “On behalf of myself and members of Council we would like to congratulate Viva Earth Refillery… we wish you great success.” |
