‘Under the Maples’ benefit concertCanada's most celebrated Country and Bluegrass band, Whiskey Jack, will play a special benefit concert featuring the songs and stories behind the music of Canadian icon Stompin' Tom Connors. Titled “Under the Maples,” the open air concert coming Saturday, Aug. 22 from 2-9 p.m., is being held at “The Farm” of philanthropic patron Bill Moffatt in the quaint Hamlet of Belfountain in Caledon opposite the Caledon Ski Club. The Whiskey Jack Band played with Stompin' Tom during his Come-Back Tour in the 1990s. “And believe me, there are some wild stories,” said says band leader Duncan Fremlin. “It wasn't just that he was ours. For many people, he was mine. It was never dull when Tom was in the room.” A Steam Whistle Beer Garden, the “Hungry Hallow Smokehouse & Grill” down home barbeque (which would make even Tom proud) plus more exotic fare from “Sweet Chili” of Orangeville, are only steps from the stage. Visitors are encouraged to bring a chair and a blanket. Tickets are $40 per person at select locations or book online at www.ticketpro.ca. Free parking generously provided by the Caledon Ski Club is across the road. All proceeds from the “Under the Maples” Concert, organized and produced by the voluntary Belfountain Community Organization, are dedicated to local community projects.
