Two dead after collision between school bus and passenger vehicleBy Brock Weir Two people are dead following a collision between a school bus and a passenger vehicle on the morning of December 19. The crash occurred on Heart Lake Road, near Mayfield Road, just before 8 a.m., according to the Caledon OPP. As the investigation continues, the OPP is looking for witnesses, and anyone with dashcam footage to come forward. Although Police said they were unable to release the names of the victims at press time, they confirmed five people were in the passenger vehicle. “On December 19, 2023, just before 8:00 a.m., Caledon OPP and emergency crews responded to a two-vehicle collision on Heart Lake Road, near Mayfield Road,” said OPP Acting Sergeant Joe Brisebois, Community Safety Officer, in a statement to media. “The incident was between a school bus and a passenger vehicle. The bus had one student on board. Both the student and the driver are uninjured. The passenger vehicle had five occupants. One was pronounced deceased at the scene and the remaining four were transported to hospital, one of which with serious injuries and later pronounced as deceased. “Heart Lake Road between Old School Road and Mayfield Road was closed for several hours while the OPP Technical Collision Investigators and Reconstructionists [assisted] with the investigation.” Anyone who may have witnessed the collision or has dashcam footage is asked to contact Caledon OPP at 905-584-2241 or 1-888-310-1122.
