Two-choir Christmas celebration coming to three area churches

The Dufferin Concert Singers and their partner choir, The New Tecumseth Singers, will once again bless the Dufferin-area community with the sounds of Christmas.
Directed by John Wervers, the choirs are known for their diverse programming from season to season as they present major works, short works, some accompanied by orchestra and others featuring local artists both vocal and (or) instrumental. A mutual love of bringing great choral music to the community is what brings them together.
Last year, the choirs performed two sold-out venues featuring Handel's Messiah with the Waterloo Chamber Players Orchestra. As part of their community work, they donated a portion of their proceeds to the Orangeville and Area Music Festival.
This year, the choirs are presenting a program of short works at churches in Orangeville and Alliston that include seasonal favourites and some opportunities to hear and sing ageless carols. The concert is themed “We Need a Bit of Christmas.”
The Orangeville concert, to be held Dec. 4 at 3:30 p.m. at the Christian Reformed Church on Blind Line, will also feature the Montgomery Village Public School Children's Choir under the direction of Kim Stevenson. At the conclusion of their presentation, the adult and children's choir will combine for a mass choir presentation.
It is important to share the love of music and singing with all ages. This is a fine example of connecting and working to gether with adults and children as community partners through music. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Door Youth program of Orangeville.
Guest artists include Kim Stevenson on flute, Sean Derraugh on clarinet and Mezzo-soprano Cara Cameron as well as the Dufferin Brass. Accompanists include Tanya Fenton, Louise Gallagher and Mary Runciman.
Tickets are $20 and available from the BookLore or any choir member. The choirs will also perform at Knox Presbyterian Church in Alliston the evening of Dec. 3 and at St. John's United Church in Creemore Dec. 18.
