TWO CHARGED IN HOME INVASION INVESTIGATION


Officers from the Caledon OPP have laid charges against a second person in connection to last Thursday's home invasion investigation.

“On January 2, 2025, shortly after 5:00 a.m., officers were dispatched to a private residence on Ann McKee Street in Caledon East for a report of a home invasion in progress,” say Police. “The suspect was operating a black Jeep Wrangler. Investigators are looking for surveillance or dashcam footage of the area on January 2, 2025, between the hours of 5:15 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. It is believed that this was a targeted incident and that there is no imminent threat to public safety.

“Later that same day, the black Jeep Wrangler was located, and a suspect was arrested. The Caledon Community Street Crime Unit, with the assistance of the Caledon Major Crime Unit and OPP Centre Region Canine, executed a search warrant on both the suspect vehicle and residence. A handgun, ammunition, and a stolen Porsche were among the seized property.”

As a result of the ongoing investigation, Abhishek Shukhand, 26, of Caledon, was charged with:

Break, enter a dwelling house with intent to commit indictable offence;

Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm;

Criminal harassment - threatening conduct;

Unlawfully in dwelling house;

Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose;

Possession property obtained by crime over $5000;

Possession of loaded prohibited or restricted firearm;

Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition;

Tampering with serial number of a firearms.

The charges have not been proven.

As part of the investigation, a second suspect was identified.

On January 5, 2025, Abhinav Bhardwaj, 25, of Caledon, was arrested and charged with:

Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm;

Possession of loaded prohibited or restricted firearm;

Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition;

Tampering with serial number of a firearms.

The charges have not been proven.

Both accused were held for a Bail Hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville.

BREAK & ENTER CHARGES

Officers from the Caledon OPP have laid charges in connection to a break and enter.

“On January 3, 2025, shortly after 6:00 a.m., officers were dispatched to a private residence in Bolton for a report of a break and enter in progress,” say Police. “Officers responded promptly and arrested the lone suspect while they were fleeing the scene.”

As a result of the investigation, Anmol Dhanoa, 29, of Brampton, was charged with:

Break, enter a dwelling house with intent to commit indictable offenc;

Mischief under $5000;

Failure to comply with release order [x2];

Failure to comply with probation order [x2].

The accused was held for a Bail Hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville.

The charges have not been proven.

CHARGES FOLLOWING ALLEGED BOXING DAY SHOPLIFTING

Members of the Caledon OPP investigated a shoplifting incident and arrested a suspect and laid charges for multiple criminal code offences.

“On December 26, 2024, shortly after 4:30 p.m., officers responded to a report of a shoplifting incident that had just occurred at an LCBO store in Bolton,” say Police. “A vehicle description was provided. Upon arrival, the vehicle was located, and the suspect was arrested. The investigation revealed that the accused was in possession of a stolen vehicle.”

As a result of the investigation, Paramjit Sandhu, 39, of no fixed address, was charged with:

Theft under $5000 - shoplifting - two counts;

Possession property obtained by crime over $5000;

Possession of an identify document;

Possession of a credit card;

Operation while prohibited under the criminal code;

Having care or control of vehicle with cannabis in open original packaging;

Fail to comply with probation order - three counts.

The accused was held for a Bail Hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville.

The charges have not been proven.

IMPAIRED DRIVING CHARGES

Officers from the Caledon OPP have charged a driver of a vehicle stopped on the side of the road with impaired operation.

“On January 3, 2025, shortly after 11:30 p.m., Caledon OPP attended to a report of a vehicle stopped on the shoulder on McLaughlin Road, near King Street,” say Police. “Upon arrival, the investigation led officers to form grounds that the driver's ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol, and subsequently made an arrest.”

As a result, Taranpreet Singh, 28, of Caledon, was charged with:

Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The charge has not been proven.

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on January 23, 2025, to answer to the charge. The driver's licence was also suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle impounded for seven.

“On December 30, 2024, just after 10:00 p.m., an officer on patrol located a vehicle with no front plate and no headlights on Airport Road, in the Town of Caledon,” say Police. “The vehicle was stopped and found to have significant front-end collision damage. It was later discovered that the driver was involved in a failed to remain collision in Brampton earlier that same day. During the interaction, the officer formed grounds that the driver's ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol and was subsequently arrested.”

As a result of the investigation, Surjeet Singh, 30, of Cambridge, was charged with:

Operation while impaired – alcohol;

Failure or refusal to comply with demand;

Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor;

Drive with improper headlights;

Drive motor vehicle, fail to display two plates;

Operate unsafe vehicle.

The charges have not been proven.

The accused is scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on January 16, 2025, to answer to the charges. The driver's licence was also suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle impounded for seven.

On December 29, 2024, shortly after 5:00 p.m., officers responded to a two-vehicle head-on collision on Highway 10 at Charleston Sideroad. Minor injuries were sustained. During the interaction with one of the drivers, grounds were formed that their ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol and was subsequently arrested.

As a result of the investigation, Maheswaran Ratnam, 47, of Caledon, was charged with:

• Operation while impaired - alcohol

• Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on January 16, 2025, to answer to the charges. The driver's licence was also suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle impounded for seven.

TEXT MESSAGE SCAMS

Officers from the Dufferin OPP responded to reports of attempted Frauds in the area, and would like to notify the public of a newer trend.

“This month, Dufferin County OPP were contacted by individuals who were sent a text message from whom appeared to be the Ontario Government, in regards to traffic violations,” say Police. “With the increase in Photo Radar – Automated Speed Enforcement, some fraudsters are attempting to cash in on a common driving infraction. Please understand that if you are ticketed for speeding using these devices, you will not receive a text message. The ticket will be mailed out to the registered address of the vehicle's owner, making them aware of the infraction and the corresponding penalty.

“As members of the public become more informed and educated about fraud, fraudsters are becoming more sophisticated. Police are strongly recommending that people slow the process down and verify all information that they receive before proceeding.”
