Two case of West Nile Virus in Peel

Peel Public Health is reporting there have been two confirmed cases of West Nile Virus in the region this year; both of them in Mississauga.
The annual surveillance program was due to wrap up last week. As of Sept. 24, there have been 63 mosquito pools in Peel that had tested positive for WNV, and none of them were in Caledon. There were 40 in Brampton and 23 in Mississauga. There were no new positive pools that week.
To date, there were 208 WNV-positive mosquito batches found in Ontario. There were 38 reported cases of WNV illness reported, including 20 in Toronto, six in Niagara Region, three in Windsor-Essex County, two apiece in Peel, York and Duham Regions, and one each in Halton Region, Haldimand-Norfolk and Ottawa.
