Traffic charges over Easter weekend

Caledon OPP joined other detachments over the Easter holiday weekend in a province-wide traffic safety initiative.
The local findings indicate there are quite a few people who don't get the message when it comes to traffic safety.
Over the course of this initiative, OPP officers focused their attention on the use of seat belts as well as the other “Big 4” causes of collisions: speeding, impaired driving and distracted driving.
In Caledon over the weekend, there were 181 people charged with seatbelt infractions, 44 charged with distracted driving, 125 charged with speeding and five impaired driving.
It only takes a few seconds to buckle up. A properly worn seat belt greatly increases one's chances of surviving a motor vehicle collision. In 2016, 45 people died in collisions on OPP-patrolled roads in which the deceased was not wearing a seat belt.
