Town’s Earth Hour results are in

Congratulations to the Caledon community on continued efforts to show environmental leadership through yearly Earth Hour energy conservation efforts.
Businesses and families throughout Caledon turned off their lights and reduced their energy consumption for Earth Hour March 23. These efforts resulted in a seven-per-cent reduction in electricity use. The Independent Electrical System Operator (IESO) reported that the Province of Ontario experienced a 2.7-per-cent reduction in electricity use overall.
“I am proud to be Mayor of such an environmentally-conscious community,” said Mayor Marolyn Morrison. “I encourage all residents to build on the momentum of Earth Hour and ‘Go Beyond the Hour.'”
Go Beyond the Hour is the World Wildlife Federation's (WWF) new climate change campaign. The WWF created Earth Hour to bring public attention to climate change. The one hour act of turning off lights was not intended to address this global issue. This is why the WWF is promoting the Go Beyond the Hour campaign which focuses on adopting behaviours that will help prevent climate change over the long term.
Many in Caledon are already “going beyond the hour.” Businesses and residents have participated in the development of the Caledon Community Climate Change Local Action Plan, a plan for Caledon to help fight climate change.
