Town staff contributions to 2019 eventsWritten By ALYSSA PARKHILL The Town of Caledon looked back on their staff contributions from 2019, and look forward to continuing their work in the new year. Town of Caledon provides a variety of programs and services for the community and residents of Caledon and highlight fundraising goals for supporting organizations. One way the Town of Caledon staff have worked throughout the past year on raising money for a variety of organizations, is through their Dress Down committee. The Dress Down committee organizes fun, and special-themed Fridays spinning their own twist on casual Fridays. Each of these themed Fridays helps raise money for different charities. In 2019, the Town of Caledon's Dress Down Fridays raised over $8,000. The funds were split and were given to these organizations: Caledon Community Services: $3,000 , Caledon Meals on Wheels: $1,000, Bethell Hospice Foundation: $1,000, Vera Davis Centre: $500, Peel Children's Centre: $500, Peace Ranch: $500, Family Transition Place: $500, Sick Kids Hospital: $1025, CURE Foundation: $258 Caledon employees gave over $20,000 from payroll deductions and special events as well as the United Way campaign last year. “I'm proud that staff understand there is a need in the community and have stepped up through payroll contributions and fundraising efforts to make a difference”, said Acting CAO Carey Herd. On Feb 11, Mayor Thompson alongside Council, Town Staff and United Way representatives presented a cheque on behalf of the donations raised in 2019 by the United Way Committee. The United Way Committee raised over $13,000 beating their intended goal for payroll deductions. Staff participation through payroll deductions set a goal for 25 per cent increase in payroll contributions, but bypassed that goal and totalling a 40 per cent increase from 2018. United Way Greater Toronto is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting and fighting local poverty in Peel, Toronto and York Region. United Way Greater Toronto provides resources of support through a network of agencies to create opportunities for those struggling for a better life. “Giving is not only our duty, but a privilege. Not everyone may be able to help others, so when someone does, I applaud them,” said Mayor Allan Thompson. “I'm proud of the hard work of Town staff and look forward to us continuing to give back to our community.” For more information, please visit caledon.ca. |
