Town seeking input from youth

The Town of Caledon Parks and Recreation Department is seeking input from young residents, not-for-profit agencies, faith-based organizations, businesses, clubs and groups about current opportunities for Caledon's young residents.
“We have so much talent here in Caledon with our gen-X and millennial citizens,” said Mayor Allan Thompson. “I'm looking forward to seeing what comes out of these conversations so that we can build a youth-friendly Caledon together.”
The Parks and Recreation Department will be hosting  conversation sessions to identify current opportunities for youth, explore how those opportunities can improve and determine community interest in becoming a youth-friendly community.
To be recognized as a youth-friendly community, it is evaluated against 16 criteria outlined by the Play Works Partnership. This evaluation assesses a community and its recreation, sport, culture, arts, engagement, youth volunteerism and youth leadership opportunities, among many others.
The conversation sessions will be April 7 in the Meeting Room at Mayfield Recreation Complex and April 17 in the Lions' Den at Caledon Community Complex. All three sessions are scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
The goal of the conversation sessions is to determine community interest in pursuing a youth-friendly community designation and to establish a collaborative group of advocates to steer the application.
