The CCAP will include actions and strategies for reducing community-wide greenhouse gas emissions and improving the adaptive capacity and resiliency of the community to cope with and adapt to the local impacts of climate change, according to the Town.  “The specialist will assist in updating the existing plan, which will include strategies to further mitigate the contributions to climate change, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and identify opportunities to adapt and improve resiliency to a changing climate,” said Chohan.  The CCAP looks into transportation, green development, energy, schools, agriculture, community awareness, tree planting and naturalization, waste, local food and long-term actions. They found community transportation represented 37 per cent of total emissions, followed by energy usage from residential buildings at 21 per cent and energy usage from commercial buildings at 16 per cent.  This role will also be responsible for facilitating the community climate change action plan,” said Chohen. “The key to the success of this plan update and the long-term implementation will be partnerships and ownership from external agencies, residents, businesses, not for profit groups and other important stakeholders. The specialist will also prepare and submit grant applications to leverage federal and provincial funding to implement climate change adaptation and mitigation projects, according to the Town. The Town is looking for a candidate with three to five years related experience in environmental management and community-based climate change mitigation and adaption. They also must have demonstrated knowledge of federal and provincial climate change policies and legislation, among many other required skills.
