Town of Caledon gearing up for Earth Hour this Saturday

The Town of Caledon has participated in Earth Hour since 2008, and is gearing up again for its 2014 campaign.
Last year, Caledon residents and business community shaved seven per cent off their electricity consumption by turning off their lights.
The Town will participate in this year's Earth Hour March 29, from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. The activities will include turning the lights out at Town Hall, Cheltenham Community Centre, Alton Community Centre, Victoria Parks Community Centre, Caledon Village Place, Inglewood Community Centre, Lloyd Wilson Centennial Arena, Margaret Dunn Community Centre, Mayfield Recreation Complex (Pool) and Caledon Centre for Recreation and Wellness (with the exception of security lights).
“I am inspired by the continued dedication of Caledon's residents, businesses and municipal staff on their involvement in this campaign,” said Mayor Marolyn Morrison. “We are fortunate to be part of such an environmentally-conscious community. I look forward to seeing the outcome of this year's Earth Hour in Caledon.”
In celebration of Earth Hour, which has a call to action on climate change, the Town would also like to invite all to attend a free screening of Chasing Ice March 29, at 3 p.m. at Landmark Cinemas in Bolton. This award-winning documentary captures the journey of James Balog, an environmental photographer and previous climate change skeptic, on his assignment for National Geographic to capture images of the Earth's changing climate. David Courier, Sundance senior programmer, said “If there was ever a film that needed to be on the big screen, this is it.”
Those who would like to attend this movie screening are asked to register online at www.caledon.ca/chasingice
Seating is limited and pre-registration is required.
