Top Canadian jazz ensemble coming to townThe Orangeville Concert Association is hosting the Barry Elmes Quintet this Saturday (Jan. 31) for an 8 p.m. performance at the Orangeville Town Hall Opera House at 87 Broadway. Since the 1980s, Elmes has occupied a place of prominence on the Canadian jazz scene, not only as one of Canada's most talented drummers, but also for his accomplishments as a composer, producer, recording artist and dedicated educator. His award-winning work has been documented on more than 90 jazz CDs and he has performed all over the world with many renowned jazz artists such as Dizzie Gillespie, Diana Krall and Moe Koffman. In 1991, Elmes formed the Barry Elmes Quintet, featuring the “who's who” of the best in Canadian jazz, including Mike Murley, Reg Schwager, Kevin Turcotte and Steve Wallace. These award-winning artists have individually been described as “superb,” “fluid” and “brilliant.” Together, with more than two decades under their belt, the Quintet is sure to dazzle the audience with a thrilling performance.
