Tilson welcomes American intern

Dufferin-Caledon MP David Tilson is again participating in the United States-Canadian Parliamentary Internship Program.
He welcomed Nicole Spaetzel of Avon, Ohio in May.
Spaetzel is currently attending Ohio State University in Columbus. She is a third year student obtaining her undergraduate degree in political science with a minor in history.
The internship program, sponsored through Western Kentucky University, provides U.S. students interested in Canadian politics a chance to work in the office of a Member of Parliament and to learn about the Canadian political system. There are currently 35 interns serving in the program from all across the United States.
“I have happily participated in this program for a number of years,” Tilson said. “Nicole has been a great asset to my Ottawa office, and I trust that she has learned a great amount about Canadian politics and the political system.”
During her time in Tilson's office, Spaetzel has had the opportunity to learn firsthand about Canadian politics and culture. She has assisted in the preparation of constituency mailings, research and various other communications materials. She was also able to attend a number of events with Tilson and interact with other diplomats and parliamentarians.
“I have really enjoyed my time in Ottawa,” Spaetzel said. “Mr. Tilson and his staff made me feel welcome. I greatly appreciate Mr. Tilson taking the time to make sure I learned and experienced as much as I could. I was able to accompany Mr. Tilson to committees, meetings and other events. The highlight of my internship was having the fortunate opportunity to meet Prime Minister Stephen Harper.”
