Tilson reminds of Summer Jobs program

Dufferin-Caledon MP David Tilson has issued a reminder to Dufferin-Caledon employers that the application window for the 2014 Canada Summer Jobs Program will be opening soon.
“The deadline for Canada Summer Jobs has changed and is earlier than in previous years,” Tilson observed. “This year, applications will be available online beginning December 2, 2013 and must be submitted by January 10, 2014. These new timelines mean that successful employers will be notified sooner and have more time to recruit students.”
The Canada Summer Jobs Program provides funding to help employers create summer job opportunities for students. It is designed to focus on local priorities, while helping both students and their communities. Canada Summer Jobs provides work experiences for students; supports organizations, including those that provide important community services; and recognizes that local circumstances, community needs and priorities vary widely.
“I encourage all local qualifying employers to participate next year. The 2013 Program was a fantastic success,”Tilson said. “There were 54 organizations from a wide range of sectors who took part in creating 108 positions, almost 28,000 hours of work and over $225,000 in federal contributions to student employment in Dufferin-Caledon.”
Canada Summer Jobs provides funding to not-for-profit organizations, public-sector employers and small businesses with 50 or fewer employees to create summer job opportunities for young people aged 15 to 30 years who are full-time students intending to return to their studies in the next school year.
