The Brewers won the game and wrapped up the series with a three-game sweep. They now advance to the 2nd round. An 8-3 win over the Ivy Leafs ended the first round win for the Bolton Brewers in the North Dufferin Baseball League Senior Division playoffs. The final game of the best-of-five series took place at North Hill Park in Bolton on Sunday night (Aug. 11). The win means the Brewers will now wait for the outcome of other NDBL series to see who they will face next. The Brewers dispatched the Leafs 6-0 in game one in Bolton on Wed, Aug. 7, before making the trip up to Ivy on August 9, for game two. That game ended with an 11-5 win for Bolton and a must-win situation for the Leafs. Brewers coach Mike Wallace said the Ivy squad put up a tougher fight than expected, including a rally in game three saw the Leafs come back from a three run deficit in the second inning to come within one run of a tie. The Leafs seemed to run out of steam and put three different pitchers on the mound in an effort to slow down the Brewers bats, but a late game effort saw the Bolton squad keep up the pressure and bring in four more runs to end the game. “It was closer than what it looked like,” said coach Wallace. “Even in this game, going into the fifth inning, it was within a run. We kind of blew it out after the fifth inning. You've got to give them credit, they got it back to 5-3, so they battled back. Then we scored the three in the bottom half of the sixth.” With this series over, the Brewers will now have to wait out the other series to see who they will play in the next round. The Orillia Majors were leading the Midland Indians 2-0 as of Sunday, in their series. The Aurora Jays were leading 2-0 over the Clearview Orioles in their first round battle. Creemore and New Lowell are battling it out in their series with game one ending in a 3-3 tie and game two ending with a Creemore win to give them a one game lead. “We'll get the lowest seed that makes it,” Wallace said of their next opponent. “It could be 7,8 or 4,5,” he said of the most likely outcome. They won't be playing a second or third seed in the second round. The next round will leave four Senior division teams left to battle it out with the winners of those series going on to the NDBL championship. --------------------------------------------------- Images: https://caledoncitizen.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/Brewers-1-300x216.jpg --------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------- Post date: 2013-08-19 17:27:37 Post date GMT: 2013-08-19 21:27:37 Post modified date: 2013-08-19 17:27:37 Post modified date GMT: 2013-08-19 21:27:37 ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Export of Post and Page as text file has been powered by [ Universal Post Manager ] plugin from www.gconverters.com
