Thompson’s ‘Engage Campaign’ shows the real issue facing Caledon this electionMayoral Candidate Allan Thompson is pleased to announce that his, Engage Campaign, an outreach of his commitment to work together to create a new vision for Caledon, has yielded valuable insights. In April, Thompson outlined a plan to hold Town Halls, a series of meet and greets, and engage Caledon residents and businesses in a dialogue on the future of Caledon. In addition, his communication outreach has made more robust use of social media and new technologies to successfully obtain input from residents of all ages than any other campaign. “One thing I know irrevocably from my 11 years serving Caledon is the strength and intelligence of the people,” he commented. “I'm thrilled to hear that despite seemingly diverse interests, the vast majority share my passion for and belief in a positive future for our town. The general consensus seems to be we are doing ok.” “There are challenges,” Thompson added, “yet overwhelmingly people believe that together we can find ‘Made in Caledon' solutions.” What he is hearing is that a delicate and skilled touch is required to balance the interests across the town, which vary greatly from community to community. With 80 per cent of Caledon's land protected, and a population of just less than 60,000, Caledon is a small municipality, and under pressure from all levels of government, including a state of flux at the Region of Peel. Some view Caledon as the new frontier. “The number one concern that people have expressed to me is the danger of losing ground without continued, knowledgeable, uninterrupted, strong and effective leadership,” Thompson observed. Since 2003, Thompson has served on numerous committees at the Town, Regional and Provincial levels. His direct, honest and reasoned approach has earned a high level of respect from his peers and resulted in a reputation as a strong, reasoned leader who listens and demonstrates integrity. His long-term vision, ability to bring people together to address challenges ensures he will act in the best interests of his constituents. Election day is Oct. 27.
